And that\’s just what they\’ll do…
I managed to take a spill down 16 stairs. With a coffee cup in one hand, and my phone on my ear in the other, I had nothing to brace the fall. I remember the slip, the \”oh shit!\”, and squirming around on the living room floor trying to catch my breath. Never in my life have I had the wind knocked out of me like this. Something felt terribly wrong. Lieze got an ambulance to the house in less than 5 minutes (totally amazing). They had to treat me in the event there was spinal damage.
They put me in a neck brace and strapped me to a flatboard for a quick ambulance ride to the ER. I wasn\’t allowed to move AT ALL for nearly two hours until a doctor could check for spinal damage. This was probably the most uncomfortable have been in years. The shooting pain in my spine and back of my ribcage, coupled with not being allowed to move for that long felt like my own personal hell. My Dad got a doctor to finally check me over, and I went in for 10-12 x-rays to make sure the injuries were minor.
Everything checked out. No spinal damage, no broken ribs. I woke up the next morning feeling more sore than I have ever been in my entire life. It literally felt like I got hit by a bus. I have a new-found respect for victims of car crashes, because I imagine this is how it feels. I guess this is what I get for trying to multi-task every second of my life. Lesson learned, lesson learned.
Just got back from the surgeon for my checkup. got some x-ray MADNESS. i took the pics with my sidekick… so the pictures aren\’t great… but you\’ll get the idea.
7\” plate, 8 screws, and a bone graft.
I\’m out of surgery, and back home. I cant feel my shoulder at all… but I can feel that my collarbone isn\’t grinding its bones against itself anymore. Before surgery you could actually hear them grind when I would try to move.
The Dr. said it was much worse when they opened me up… that the surgery was the way to go. Originally it was an option to let it try and heal on it\’s own. I really fuckered it up bad, so I know I made the right choice by going under the knife.
I really did it this time. I had a serious fall off my skateboard on Saturday night. I major case of wheel-bite sent me flying, both feet in the air, off my board, and onto the pavement… landing right on my shoulder. I managed to break my collarbone in 4 places, one of which punctured my lung slightly. The ER didnt even see the lung… and they said i cracked two ribs, but my orthopedic surgeon confirmed they\’re just bruised… not cracked.
I have to go into surgery on Thursday to have a plate put in my shoulder. Who would have thought that a rock wedged under a skateboard wheel could inflict so much damage.
