35mm Consumer Society.
I lended a creative helping-hand to Lieze, and did up a poster design for her art show next week. She and I have both been up to our necks in this project. It’s scale is huge, and she still has a million things to complete before the show… but I figured I could take care of the poster, and leave her with one less thing on her plate.
The premise of the show is how advertising uses imagery and photographs that relate to our personal lives to appeal to us on a subconscious level. It will be using an array of 35mm slides projected using vintage slide projectors, with a motion graphic advertisements projected on top of the slide projections, using digital projectors. The projections are to be cast on a giant box constructed of plywood, shipping palettes, and analog VHS cassette tapes. She has sourced an insane amount of vintage technology to make all of this work.
If you’re in or around Atlanta on March 10th… come on out!

The Reel of a Hobo.
Joshua Herron 2009 Demo Reel from Joshua Herron on Vimeo.
If you didn’t know… this Hobo ain’t your average hobo. He ith a cultivator of fine beards, exquisite cinematography, and wondrous colour grades. Joshua “Hobo” Herron just dropped his ‘09 demo reel on the world… and no, he didn’t upload it from a freeway off-ramp holding a sign that says “Why lie? I need a beer”.
Bask in the omnipresent talent exuded in this three-minute sampling of work. Then, when you are done… hire this man so I can enjoy more visuals of this caliber.

Empty-Handed Flyers.
I was digging through some old boxes from my college days, and stumbled across these old flyers. If memory serves me correctly, Antonio Garcia, TJ McCucheon, and myself walked into the Kinko’s on 14th empty handed. The goal was to make the flyers with anything available inside the store (without using their computers). These flyers are a result of turning trash cans inside-out, and using paper scraps, scissors, and glue to assemble a completed flyer.
I have no idea who made what, but This was definitely a fun exercise, and it yielded some pretty cool work.
I might have to try this again sometime!

VBS TV.
I’m a big documentary guy. I really cannot get enough of them. Most of the time it doesn’t even matter what the subject is, I really adore the format, and enjoy (gasp!) learning something in the process. Why I haven’t been in-tune with the internets to know more about Vice Magazine’s online television network: VBS.tv sooner, I am unsure… BUT – I think I may just be in love.
Their guerrilla approach to making some of these documentaries is definitely gloves-off, knee-deep, and in your face. They are doing things, going places, and seeking out answers regarding topics that most major media outlets would never dream of. They offer a fresh, and what I feel to be pretty unbiased view on what they are covering… really aiming to focus on the facts presented to them as they experience these things first-hand.
Until recently, Heavy Metal in Baghdad was my only dose of Vice filmmaking… which is an amazing/dangerous look at the only heavy metal band in Iraq, and their struggles to merely exist as a band… let alone play their music. I can’t even count how many segments on VBS are equally as great, if not better.
To add an element of legitimacy to it all, CNN just partnered up with VBS because they admire their journalism and unique approach to reporting. Not bad for a Brooklyn-based indie-magazine.
Some of the more eye-opening segments that I’ve seen so far include the Vice Guide to Liberia, The Sewers of Bogota, Toxic Garbage Island, Vice Guide to North Korea, and any of the segments from their Middle East Channel. I could easily list ten-fifteen more worthy segments that I have seen so-far, but I will let you explore the site on your own.
And to the crew at VBS… if you ever need another cameraman, motion graphics guy, WHATEVER.
Holler.

Slide Style™ Sticker/Killer Packs™.
Finished up the pre-packaged sticker packs for Slide Style™! The clean and simple design is in-line with the 2010 rebranding, and I am very pleased how they turned out. Sticker Packs consist of 7 stickers (one of each), while the Killer Pack™ is stuffed with 35 of the same variety (five of each). The backs of the card have a funny message… but you’ll have to cop some to see.
Available now in the Slide Style™ Online Store.

Forza Motorsport 3 Replica.
I am behind the times, I know… I still do not have an Xbox 360, which means I am also not privvy all the cool stuff in Forza Motorsport 3. My buddy Marlow showed me this replica of my car in it’s 2006 livery with Batlground on the door. If you recall, Casey (cobratuner) made an amazing replica of my car in it’s 2007 livery for Forza 2. I think this version of the car was made by “AoG | Kevbo” on the forzamotorsport.net forum. I’m definitely flattered to see people take the time to make my car’s likeness. It is really, really awesome, so THANK YOU!!!

Slide Style™ Store Upgrade.
Even though I “revamped” the Slide Style™ site about six months ago… some sort of muse was pushing me to scrap it, and do something else. The hosting was up for renewal, so rather than renew, and keep the hacked up WordPress store that had too much going on, I opted to move everything over to a Big Cartel storefront.
Keeping things inline with “less is more for 2010″, I stripped everything down to the barest of essentials. Dare I say that it looks MUCH better? The added functionality that Big Cartel provides, like easier combined & international shipping profiles, made the move that much sweeter.
I have some new items making their way to the store over the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled!

New Slide Style™ Direction.
I always preach to clients that less is more. Nobody ever listens to me (why would I know what I’m talking about, right?), so I figured what better venue to exercise this philosophy than with my own work. For 2010, I am simplifying the overall identity for Slide Style™. I don’t think it will open any client’s eyes to the ‘less is more’ idealogy, but at least it will give me a chance to push the direction for myself.
