I came across these cool press kits I designed and had printed for SEMA back in 2006. We were looking for some company backing to help offset the cost of the documentary. I threw these press kits together extremely fast to make it back from the press in time for Vegas. Two years have passed since then, and now that I’m looking back on these… I think they turned out to be a slick piece of collateral.
The press kit starts out with a brief synopsis of what the project was about, and what our goal behind it was.
It talked about media partnerships, and what we had to offer as a marketing platform.
It overviewed unique impressions through all media outlets, and discussed partnership options for sponsorship.
Lastly, a DVD of the 1st teaser trailer was attached to the back inside cover via a cool gel disc.
Off all the prospective partnerships… the only one to step up and show faith in what we were doing was Exedy Racing Clutch. Most of the other companies were either turned off because of the street-drifting in the documentary, or fell under the “all talk, no action” clause that seems to plague the industry.
Regardless, these press kits are very cool, and will be something I will cherish forever. To me, these still mark the beginnings of this project… and are a small part of a larger picture of what this project later became.

So crazy!
I cannot get enough of the first minute and twelve seconds of RiceBoyTV‘s coverage from the 5th round of Formula Drift in Seattle. Will Roegge shot and edited the video, and did a phenomenal job. The intro 110% epic, and is what I want to see more of with all drift-related videos across the board.
When you put time, effort, and heart into anything… it shows. And Will’s intro simply kills it. I can’t wait to see more amazing work from him.
My good friend, Cody Wellons wound up as part of a duo that made it to the regional finals of the Colgate Country Showdown. Cody doesn’t really play country music… but he totally shreds on guitar, so last night we went to support him and catch the other 19 finalists.
There were some good acts, and some not-so good acts. Cody played acoustic for Richard Harris… who’s dream is to become a country star. Unfortunately, this time around, they didn’t advance to the finals in Nashville… but they definitely gave it hell.
Afterwards, we were all standing out in the parking lot of the theatre. There were 10 of us hanging out, talking right behind Cody’s Fit. All of a sudden, I hear Jerry screaming “LOOK OUT, LOOK OUT!!”… I turn my body slightly, only to see a blur of brake lights amidst a frenzy of panic. There was a Chevy Impala hurling towards us in reverse. Everything happened so fast, that I don’t fully remember what happened… but instinct-mode kicked in, and I somehow jumped up as the car hit me. When the car finally hit Cody’s Fit, it sent me flying off into his car with my (good) shoulder. An elderly woman had somehow slipped her foot from the brake to the gas, and basically floored it into all of us. She knocked just about all of us back and down like bowling pins. Had the Fit not been there to stop her… we would have all been run over.
Seriously.
Had I not jumped when I did… I would have been sandwiched.
You can see the speed in which she was going. Cody’s car was parked straight… and she hit it so hard she pushed it sideways.
Several police, firetrucks, and EMT’s showed up after some delay, and the woman was cited.
Lucky for everyone… nobody was seriously hurt. Cuts, scrapes and bruises seem to be on everyone’s injury menu… if they had injuries at all. I woke up with a sore shoulder & back. Even my jaw felt sore. It’s funny how I fall off a skateboard that is inches off the ground, and I wreck my life… but then I get hit by a car, and I’m fine.
I can’t even stress how lucky we all were. This ordeal could have turned out MUCH much worse.

It was a long weekend, and a great event. Plenty of fierce battles between old friends and veteran drifters alike. It made for an amazing time, and a fantastic weekend.
After the dust settled… I almost lost an eye, had 6 destroyed tyres, and a 3rd place trophy.
