Lieze and I stopped by Fry’s Electronics today… after hearing a rumor that the 2008 retail release of Slide America could be found there. The retail version hit stores February 5th… and after checking all the major players (Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-Mart) to no avail, you could say I was a bit confused.
It felt really good to see this on the shelf at Fry’s:

I felt a major sense of accomplishment seeing it in a retail environment like this. This project has come so far… and to see it… not only on the shelf – but placed & tagged face out was amazing. We still have not been sent any of this copy… so this was my first time seeing it in it’s retail skin.
How could this joyous encounter be overshadowed by a sense of dissapointment? The fact that I had to buy my own copy to get one makes for a good start. I really dislike the artwork on the DVD. I understand the need to appeal to a broader market that may not know about drifting… but I don’t fall into that demographic, so I’m unsure of it’s effectiveness. This cover is not what Slide America is (to me). I fought every aspect of this cover design. In the end… all I asked was for the Slide Style logo be placed on the back. Somehow even that request fell by the wayside.
I suppose that all success comes with sacrifice. With that in mind… I can let the petty details go, and know that at the end of the day… we did it. We really did it… and nothing can ever take THAT away.

My good friend Dosa Kim worked with Jose Cuervo to make a custom “Dosa Version” 1800 Tequila bottle. They selected 9 artists across the globe to make limited-edition bottles. Another local Atlanta artist, UrbanMedium was also selected. That’s pretty rad to have two Atlanta-natives in the top running for the project. Dosa talks a little about the project in his blog.

I drove around this evening to snap pictures of the billboards that are up around Atlanta promoting the project. Some of the billboards listed for Dosa had already been switched to UrbanMedium billboards… so I got shots of both. There was one listed on Techwood that was pulled down last month… but I managed to hit all the others listed. It made for a fun drive around Atlanta… and it’s awesome to see an old friend doing it big.
Check out the official 1800 Tequila site with more info about all the artists involved.

I put together a rad flyer for Unnatural Inc’s Drift Invasion series. I’m always down to help the grassroots guys… especially when it comes to promoting grassroots drift events. If you’re in the Portland area… definitely check out Unnatural Inc. and support their series.

Some cool type treatments for the guys over at Unnatural Inc. for their Drift Invasion series at Portland International Raceway.

I came across a few of these short teasers for Speedhunters on Auto Otaku. They are all really great. I never tire of slow-motion. I could watch videos like these for days. I love the animated treatment for the logo. Simple… effective… awesome.

I put together a killer full-page advertisement for Advanced Armament Corp. AAC holds a yearly silencer-only shoot…
encouraging other manufacturers, enthusiasts, and novices to come out and learn/share/experience the benefits of supressed shooting.
The concept behind this advertisement was to make the shoot epic and unforgettable. Movie posters (when done right) are both… leaving you with the initial and lasting impressions. I used a wide variety of images in the final composite… including several images of cars on fire from last years shoot, destroyed Iraq, and more.
My AR-15 took form this week, marking the completion of the build! I’m super stoked to have it finished. Kevin at Advanced Armament really hooked this thing up with some SERIOUS hardware! Stag Arms upper & lower, Noveske Rifleworks barrel, Knights Armament rails and handguard panels, A.R.M.S. sights, Magpul grip, stock, & mags, and an Advanced Armament Blackout flash hider.
I’m excited to have my first rifle… and to have one of this caliber (no pun intended), is AWESOME!

I came across this on Original Made. This video is proof that you don’t need fancy software/effects to make a great video.
Quality shots, the right music choice, and simple editing go a long way.
This video does a great job… keeping it as clean as the s13 vert it highlights.
Four new Slide Styleâ„¢ decks arrived on Monday. I had two new designs pressed, along with two decks from the ’07 lineup.
I snapped a few pics straight out the box… still wrapped in shrink.
Motorcult Modern & Wireframed.
These decks both started out as typography/style explorations.

Big ups to Dosa Kim for the Firebird illustration. That thing is sick no matter where it lands.
